Lately, as we've been getting many new members, we've also been getting an increase in spammers. Sometimes they post in the boards, and sometimes they send PMs to members. If you get any of these messages, please report them to either Isabelle or myself so we can take care of them. If they keep coming we'll implement ways to stop them, though that would require changing the registration system. Let us know if you have any trouble and we'll take care of it ASAP.

Thanks.

Honestly, if this keeps up.. for all our sake, we should start having to approve people again before they are allowed to post.

That was my thought, but if I don't have to impose that inconvenience on new members, I'd rather not. We haven't had many instances of spamming, just more than usual, so I'm encouraging anyone who sees one or gets messages from them to let a staff member know. I think that members can also use the "Report PM" feature, which higher staff members should be notified of.

If this keeps up, however, I will change the registration form to member approval.

The spam is more of an inconvenience imo. =P I've seen what ends up in the Staff area, we do not need our friends seeing any of that.

There is a CAPTCHA system. I don't think all the spammers are bots. =[

I guess if they aren't robots there isn't really anything we can do except look out. xD I'll check around more often, usually I don't look around unless I log in and post, so... hopefully they cut it out. xD I don't want to have to change how the registering works just for them.

For what it's worth, when I browse around here I haven't seen any spam, so whatever you guys are doing, you're getting it taken care of quickly. Since that's the case I don't think you need to worry about approving people as long as you keep managing to get rid of it. That's assuming it will keep happening anyway. All sites have spam issues sometimes.

Agreed with Crim. Unless it gets really bad I don't think we need to do anything. Otherwise we're more than capable of looking after the place. Tongue

Mostly PM spammers. Probably the most annoying, but that's what bans are for. That said, I've temporarily put registration on staff approval since we had another PM spam problem today. Any new members shouldn't have to wait long, as both admins are notified by email.

I did get a few personal messages from people. They asked me to check for viruses on my computer. They had a link, which I did not click just in case. I am glad you are taking more measures to stop them. I do not remember having this kind of trouble before. Do you know where they came from?

The spammer sent me the same PM twice, lol. I wonder why if they go through the trouble of registering, why they will PM a staff member? It doesn't seem like it will do them much good somehow.
